Welcome to Friday, and hello, sunshine…
Weather: Thawing out. We’ll get back above freezing this morning, and we’ll have sunny skies with highs reaching the middle 40s. Lows tonight will fall to the upper 20s. The weekend will be warmer with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Rain moves back in Sunday night, and will continue through the first half of the work week.
Jefferson County Schools delayed. Students will report to classes two hours later today, with school staffs reporting at 9 a.m. There will be no breakfast service. Blount County Schools have not reported a closing or delay, so we assume they have returned to normal schedules.
Indiana Jones and the Airplane Landing of Doom. Actor Harrison Ford is recovering this morning in a hospital from minor injuries, after he crash-landed his vintage airplane on a golf course just short of a runway in Santa Monica, Calif. on Thursday. Ford reported shortly after take-off that he had an engine failure on his World War II Ryan training plane. He requested an immediate return from air traffic control, but couldn’t make it and put the plane down on the golf course. Harrison, 72, has flown fixed-win aircraft and helicopters for decades; a spokesman for the actor said the injuries were not life-threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.
Sports: One more try. With inclement weather apparently out of the way, the Jefferson County Schools Baseball Tournament will try to wrap things up today with the final games at Gardendale. Corner and Mortimer Jordan will play in the third-place game at 4:30 and the Rockets will host Pleasant Grove in the championship game immediately afterward.
