Ernie Jean ‘Big Ern’ McClendon
Funeral services for Ernie Jean “Big Ern” McClendon, 74, of Crane Hill will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Logan Baptist Church, the Revs. Jack Collins, Larry Brown, and Ernie James McClendon (Ernie’s son), with interment in Shedd Cemetery in Trimble. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McClendon died Thursday, May 31, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 5, 1933, in Cold Springs, Ala., to Luther and Myrtle Williams McClendon. In 1965, he became a career police officer with the city of Cullman and retired after 30-plus years with he rank of captain. He also served two years in the U.S. Army and worked as a truck driver for Cullman Banana Supply.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Atherlee McClendon, Ruth Glenn and Ival White; a son-in-law, Carol “Arzo” Johnson; and his father-in-law, James Kermit Still.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Peggy Still McClendon; two daughters, Rita Jean (Dale) Johnson and Nina Jo (Joe) Davis; two sons, Ernie James “Jimmy” (Susan) McClendon and Luther Joseph “Jody” McClendon; three brothers, Marvin McClendon, Johnny (Marion) McClendon and Kenneth (Nelda) McClendon; two sisters, Irene Black and Eloise (Charles) Hannah; six grandchildren, Jared (Summer) Johnson, Rebecca McClendon, Leah McClendon, Kelly (Jaimee) Johnson, Lance Cpl. Taylor Davis-USMC, Rachel McClendon and James Harper; three stepgrandchildren, Kristy (Tony) Lopez and Jonathan (Alisha) Harper; three great-grandchildren, Logan Johnson, Lucas Johnson and Autumn Johnson; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren, Angel Mernatti, Kristen Mernatti, Antonio Lopez, Aaron Lopez, Aryanna Harper, Jazmin Harper and Lauren Harper.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Richard Barrett Bean
Funeral services for Richard Barrett Bean, 81, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2007, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Tony Thomas officiating, with burial in Simcoe Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Bean died Wednesday, May 30, at Hanceville Nursing Home. He was born on May 23, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., to Henry and Jennie Bailey Bean. He was a police officer in Detroit, Mich., and Morris, Ala. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Barnes Bean of Cullman; six sons, Frank (Penny) Bean, Kenneth (Marie) Bean, Norm (Mary) Bean, Chris (Kelly) Bean, Homer Jack (Michelle) Bean and Ray (Teresa) Bean; a daughter, Barbara Trigo; a sister, Judy Bean; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Danny Ray Whitehead
Funeral services for Danny Ray Whitehead, 55, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2007, with interment in Bethlehem East Cemetery in Hanceville.
Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Whitehead died Thursday, May 31, at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fletcher Whitehead.
Survivors include his mother, Imogene Whitehead of Cullman; two sons, Heath and Keith Whitehead, both of Hanceville; a daughter, Dana Whitehead of Cullman; six grandchildren, Corey and Blake Hood, Haley, Brittany and Jessica Whitehead and Latasha Hollis; and a sister, Becky Gay of Hanceville.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Henry Wilson Taylor
Funeral services for Henry Wilson Taylor, 92, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Leak-Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Pastor Gary Aldridge officiating the service, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the service.
Leak-Memory Chapel in Montgomery is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Taylor died Tuesday, May 29, at Cullman Health Care. He was born on July 1, 1914, in Greenville, S.C. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served his country in World War II and during the Korean War. His service included 23 years of active duty with the U.S. Air Force and seven years with the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He also served in U.S. Government Civil Service, retiring with over 38 years of total service to his country. His U.S. Air Force Reserve duty included assignments with the 908th Airlift Wing at Bates Field and Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, Ala., and Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery. Henry was a member of the Thorington Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, before moving to Cullman. In Cullman he was a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church. He was a member of the Montgomery, Ala., Chapter, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity of Business and Professional Men and served as chapter president during his membership. He also loved golf and played for many years until physically unable.
Henry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy E. Duncan Taylor of Opelika.
He is survived by his two sons, Robert and his wife, Sherry Taylor of Newnan, Ga., and Ron and his wife, Vicki Taylor of Cullman; four grandchildren, Jamie and her husband, Riley Trimble, of Cullman, Scott and his wife, Rachel Taylor of Statesboro, Ga., Laura Taylor of Cullman, Cindy and her husband, Chris Coppage, of Alpharetta, Ga.; and one great-grandchild, Taylor Trimble of Cullman. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was Friday.
