Weather: A familiar refrain. Mostly sunny and warm today with a 40 percent chance of scattered afternoon storms, with highs in the upper 80s. Mostly cloudy tonight with lows near 70 and a 30 percent chance of rain. The chance of storms increases on Friday to 50 percent, with highs in the middle 80s and lows in the upper 60s.
Alleged drug trafficker jailed. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Frederick Dowdell of Pinson on 10 drug-related charges, including one count of drug trafficking. Dowdell is also charged with three counts of unlawful distribution of controlled substances, three counts of unlawful possession or receipt of controlled substances, on count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of second-degree possession of marijuana, and one count of possession with intent to distribute. He was booked into the county jail Wednesday morning, where remains on bond totaling $588,500.
Sports: All tied up. The Chicago Blackhawks evened up the Stanley Cup Finals series Wednesday night with a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay. Goalie Corey Crawford stopped a barrage of Lightning shots late, and finished the game with 24 saves. The Hawks got goals from Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad, while Alex Killorn slipped in behind Crawford for a surprise goal for Tampa. Andrei Vasilevskiy, subbing for injured regular Lightning goalie Ben Bishop, had 17 saves. The series, now tied 2-2, goes back to Tampa on Saturday night.
