Junior high football: Locust Fork 36, Fultondale 12

Locust Fork quarterback Tyler Clevenger returned the game’s opening kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown, threw for two more TDs, and set up two other scores with a 56-yard run and a 34-yard interception return to lead the visiting Hornets over Fultondale 36-12 in junior high football action Monday night.

Clevenger added a 2-point conversion run after his opening kickoff return touchdown to give the Hornets an early 8-0 lead. The Wildcats answered with a 12-yard scoring run by quarterback Trayvon Stacker, but a 2-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the Hornets with an 8-6 lead with 3:54 remaining in the opening period.

The Clevenger show continued from that point, as he tossed touchdown passes of 48 and 24 yards to wide receiver Ethan Moser. Then after a Fultondale punt, he ran around left end for 56 yards to the 1-yard line, setting up a run by Charlie Cater.

On the Wildcats first play after the Locust Fork kickoff, Clevenger intercepted a pass and returned it 34 yards to the Wildcat 20, setting up Jansen Underwood’s 7-yard scoring run. At the half, it was 36-6 in favor of the Hornets.

Fultondale used the entire shortened third quarter to drive 64 yards in eight plays, culminating in a 1-yard Andre Boyd run for a touchdown. The point-after kick was wide leaving, the Hornets in front 36-12.

Stacker rushed for over 100 yards in the game to highlight the Wildcat effort.

Clevenger rushed for 65 yards on two attempts, passed for 72 more, returned two kickoffs for 104 yards and one touchdown while returning one interception for 34 yards for the Hornets.

A junior varsity game was also scheduled, but was cancelled because of lightning.
