James Thomas Parker
Funeral services for James Thomas Parker, 90, of Bremen will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Ryan’s Creek Baptist Church, Dr. Harper Shannon and the Revs. Keith Gambill and Ron Foshee officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.
Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Parker died Wednesday, Jan. 3 at his residence. He was born on Dec. 17, 1916, in Alabama to E.N. and Janie Calvert Parker. He was a crane operator with U.S. Steel and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Mary Jane Mewborn and Freda Jo Cook.
Survivors include his wife, Olene Swann Parker of Bremen; two sons, Bobby Eugene Parker of Cook Springs and James Lee Parker of Bremen; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Robert M. Hearin
Funeral services for Robert M. Hearin, 48, of Cullman, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Bob Alford and the Rev. Bob Murray officiating, with burial in the Cullman City Cemetery.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hearin died Wednesday, Jan. 3, following a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was born on March 1, 1958, to the Rev. Gerry and June Hearin in Montgomery.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, G.M. and Alma Hearin, and Robert and Matilda Fitzpatrick.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Marsha Brock Hearin of Cullman; two sons, Robert Tyler and Preston Brock of Cullman; a daughter, Carissa Michelle of Cullman; parents Rev. Gerry and June Hearin; a sister, Lisa (Steve) Alexander; his mother-in-law, Genneli (Jim) Barrs; his father-in-law, Moody (Margie) Brock; a sister-in-law, Sherry (Pete) Moore; a brother-in-law, Jimmy (Heather) Brock; nieces and nephews, Kyle, Keith and Kirk Wingard, Christopher Moore, Hunter and Clay Brock, Blaire and Reese Alexander, and Duck, the family’s special dog.
Mr. Hearin came to Cullman in 1973 when his father was named minister at First United Methodist Church. He was president of his senior class in 1976 and graduated from Cullman High School where he was a basketball star, earning most valuable player honors in the Tennessee Valley Conference tournament and establishing a scoring record for tournament play. He earned a scholarship to Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
He was a successful entrepreneur, helping start Computer Network Inc., Computer Network Link Inc., Cullman Logistics Inc., Cullman Bonded Inc. and Cullman Oil Inc. after working for the Blount County and purchasing Ben Prickett’s China and Gift Store.
Mr. Hearin was actively involved in local sports programs. He coached boys and girls youth AYSO and AYSA soccer teams, basketball teams, softball teams and baseball teams.
While president of the Cullman Quarterback Club in 2003, the football field was resurfaced. During his tenure as president of the Cullman Tip-Off Boosters Club in 2001, the gymnasium floor was resurfaced for the first time in 20 years and a court divider curtain for Cullman Middle School’s gymnasium was purchased. And as vice president of the Cullman High School Baseball Boosters in 2002, he organized and oversaw the construction of the baseball field house at Cullman High School.
Three times as a Republican candidate, he ran for positions in the state Senate and the state House of Representatives.
Mr. Hearin was named Kiwanian of the Year in 1991-92 and was a past officer of the Cullman Historical Society.
First United Methodist’s fellowship hall was named Hearin Hall in honor of contributions by Mr. Hearin and his family. He served as chairman of the Board of Stewards and chairman of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. He was a Sunday School teacher for both the senior high class and the adult Enthusiasts’ class, drove the church bus, served as an usher and was a frequent volunteer in virtually all aspects of church life.
For the past six months, he wrote a weekly column in The Cullman Times.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Cullman High School Athletic Department.
Pallbearers will be Phil Anderson, Mike Arnold, Tim Binkowski, Wilson Blaylock, Rusty Buster, Neal Culpepper, Tim Culpepper, Ed Darling, J.J. Guthrie, Doug Harris, Clayton Ingram, Mike McConatha, Joe McElroy, Mike Roden, Fess St. John, Keith Scott, Bill Shields, Allen Stricklin, Steve Sweat, Cody Sweetland, Craig Villar, Rodney Whittle and Stan Wood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Chandler and Cody Green.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Hearin Hall at First United Methodist Church.
Jack H. Smith
Funeral services for Jack H. Smith, 80, of Baileyton will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Sherman Bailey and Jerry Lake officiating, with burial in Bethel Cemetery in Eva.

Mr. Smith died Thursday, Jan. 4 at his residence. He was born on April 10, 1926, in Auburn to Thomas and Martha Craig Smith. He was retired from Ceco Steel in Birmingham and Nicholson File in Cullman. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Bailey Smith of Baileyton; two sons, Larry Joe (Janice) Smith and Gary Austin Smith; a daughter, Bobbie Jean Smith (Rick) Geary; a sister, Nell Ray; six grandchildren, Joe (Tracey) Smith, Karla Shadix, Eric (Letha) Smith, Kyle Shadix, Latonia Smith and Lindsey Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson Smith and Madison Smith.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Alex Jason ‘A.J.’ Doyle
Funeral services for Alex Jason “A.J.” Doyle, 5 months, of Vinemont will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Rayburn Jones officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

He died Sunday, Dec. 31 at his residence. He was born on July 31, 2006, in Cullman.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Elmer and Hazel Parker and Mary Graves.
Survivors include his parents, Jason and Heather Graves Doyle of Vinemont; a sister, Allison Doyle of Vinemont; his grandparents, Herbert and Maudie Graves of Eva, Danny Doyle of Norfolk, Va., and Denise Parker of Cullman; his great-grandparents, Johnnie and Gertrude Parker of Falkville and Earl Graves of Cullman; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation was Thursday.
Dorothy Howard Hassell Dahlke
Funeral services for Dorothy Howard Hassell Dahlke, 78, of Holly Pond will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. Warren Ruland officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services.

Mrs. Dahlke died Wednesday, Jan. 3 at her residence. She was born in Cullman County to Tomie Howard Sr. and Bertie Holloway Howard. She was an Avon sales representative and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carmelia Patterson; her husband, D.C. Hassell; six brothers, Tomie J. Howard Jr., Raymond Howard, Clinton Q. Howard, Burford Howard, Royce Howard and Harold Howard; and a sister, Margie Burks.
Survivors include her husband, Robert E. “Bob” Dahlke of Holly Pond; a son, David C. (Sandra) Hassell of Holly Pond; a daughter, Mitzi (Dr. Walter) Brumleve of Cullman; four grandchildren, Daniel Hassell and Sonya Hassell, both of Holly Pond, Amanda (Adam) White and Leslie Brumleve both of Cullman; two sisters, Nelda Hyde of Cullman and Frances Estes of Hanceville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be W.W. Smith, David Dahlke, Gilbert Dahlke, James Dahlke, Michael Dahlke and Allan Hassell.
Visitation was Thursday.
Kate Pauline Cooke
Funeral services for Kate Pauline Cooke, 95, of Owens Crossroads, formerly of Cullman, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home Chapel, Tommy Graves officiating, with interment in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cooke died Thursday, Jan. 4 at South Hampton Nursing Home. She was born on Oct. 20, 1911, in Georgia. She was a member of Brickyard Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Henry and Nellie Lilian Sanders Walraven; and her husband, William Lurie Cooke.
Survivors include a son, Gerald Cooke; three daughters, Ival Lee (Curtis) Cutcher, Ruth Horton (Bill) Mulkey and Jo Anne (Bill) Glass; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Cutcher, Wayne Cutcher, Wayne Horton, Brent Cooke, Vint Atchley and James Roden.
Visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Edward D. Oaks
Edward D. Oaks, 74, of Cullman pased away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.
Hazel Banks Carlisle
Funeral services for Hazel Banks Carlisle, 81, will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at Jefferson Memorial, Highway 11 in Trussville. Dr. Jerry Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Jefferson Memorial Funeral Homes and Gardens is in charge of arrangements.
Hazel was born in Vernon, Alabama and moved to Jefferson county in 1941. She was a dedicated member of Roebuck Parkway Church of Christ and recently Cullman Church of Christ. Hazel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She worked for Thompson Bootery and later as supervisor for McClain Manufacturing. Hazel was very active in the Alabama Bridge Association as Partnership Coordinator from 1967 to 1984 when she retired to look after her mother. Survivors include her husband Norman Edward Carlisle, daughter Jackie Carlisle Burkett, grandchildren Brian Douglas Burkett, Katie Nicole Burkett, Christopher Neil Burkett, and Adam Tyler Burkett.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, it was Hazel’s wish that donations be made to either Roebuck Parkway Church of Christ (400 Roebuck Parkway, Birmingham, AL 35206) 0r Cullman Church of Christ (4345 Ala. Hwy 157, Cullman, Ala. 35058.)
