Good Monday morning to you, as Alabama football prepares for a national championship rum, Auburn heads for Tampa — and UAB heads for history…
Weather: Cloudy and seasonably cool. Mostly cloudy today, with highs in the middle 50s – about what our highs should be this time of year. Tonight will be partly cloudy and a bit breezy after midnight, with lows down to the upper 30s. Tuesday will be sunny with highs in the middle 50s, and lows down around the freezing mark.
Sisters sought. Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama has pulled a notice off of its Facebook page which asked for information about Brittany and Jessica Patterson, two young sisters from Kimberly who were wanted on charges of first-degree armed burglary. The original post was entered on Friday, and attracted a great deal of attention – including what appears to be a reply from Jessica Patterson herself. A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman couldn’t say Sunday night if the two women had been arrested; we hope to have a definitive word this morning.
Sports: Going bowling. Alabama’s rout of Missouri in Saturday’s SEC Championship Game locked up the top seed in the inaugural College Football Playoff for the Crimson Tide. They will face fourth-seeded Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day, while Oregon and Florida State will met in the Rose Bowl that same day. The winners will play in the championship game on Jan. 12 in Dallas. Meanwhile, Auburn will play in the Outback Bowl in Tampa, where they will face Wisconsin – the team that the Buckeyes blew out Saturday in the Big 10 championship game. And as for UAB, the term “bowl eligible” does not guarantee a berth in a post-season game, and that means that Blazer football has officially ended with their lack of a bowl invitation. That also means that star running back and Gardendale native Jordan Howard is going through the recruiting process yet again – he has two years of eligibility left, and can play immediately for his new team. Among the potential suitors reported thus far: Indiana, Louisville and Vanderbilt… High school basketball: After their boys survived an overtime frenzy against rival Mortimer Jordan on Friday night, Gardendale jumps into area play tonight as they host Walker. Girls are schedule to tip off at 6 p.m. with boys to follow.
