Hayden sweeps Susan Moore, Fultondale takes two

Hayden swept Susan Moore on Monday night as one of the youngest players on either school’s roster had a big night.

On Monday night, the Lady Wildcats improved to 5-4 overall as they topped Blount County rival Susan Moore behind a strong defensive effort.

The Lady Wildcats held the Lady Bulldogs to only 4-of-22 shooting in the first half to seize control of the contest.

Eighth grader Krista Strickland led the way with a great game, she netted a triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals.

Mallory Ray added seven points and five steals, Tiffany Myrick had five points and four assists, Sam Niblett had four points, Haley Daniel had three points and Terri Sharp had three points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Wildcats shot 6-of-9 from the floor in the first quarter to get off to a quick start. By the half, Hayden had a nine-point lead as they went on to improve to 4-5 overall.

Nick Hardy led the Wildcats with 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Owen Hargett had 14 points, Matt Stewart had 13 points, including hitting two 3-point shots.

Ben Curry had 11, including two 3s. Josh Pitoe had nine points and 10 rebounds, Nick Burton had eight points, Cody Butler scored three and Will Yates scored two points.

The Lady Wildcats improved to 5-4 as they held off the Lady Eagles.

Krissy Freeman led the way with 17 points and six assists. Freeman sank four 3-point shots. Britani Howell had 14 points and played a key defensive role during the victory.

“Britani played great in the second half,” Fultondale head coach Richie Busby said. “We had her guard Sumiton’s leading scorer and she really shut her down. Britani allowed her only two second half points and those both came at the free throw line. Her defense was really a key to our win.”

The Wildcats (9-4) used a new defense to key a 15-3 run to begin the game and went on to the easy win on Monday night.

“We used a new press that we just put in three days ago,” Fultondale head coach Phillip Lawson said. “It got us off to a quick start and we shot the ball well for a change to begin the game.”

The Wildcats opened up a 21-8 lead after the first quarter and by the end of the third, the margin had grown to 46-25.

Chris Brown led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds, followed by Dra Talley with 12 points, J.D. Hood with 11 points, Chrisitan McCollough with eight points, Landon Robinson had seven, Sharod Smith had four points each and Taylor Minor scored three points.

Smith and R.J. Sanders handed out four assists each.



Moody boys 56,

Mortimer Jordan boys 43


The Blue Devils slipped to 2-5 overall as they fell to Moody.

Ceasar Bell led Mortimer Jordan with 12 points, followed by Joey Payton and Nathan McIntosh with eight points each, Trent Mulvehill scored six, Ryan Densmore had four, Andrew Burden had three and Clint Brown scored two points.

Jordan slipped to 2-6 overall. Payton led the way with 13 points, followed by McIntosh with 10.

John Burrow, Densmore and Bell all three scored four points, Brown and Patrick Mitchell scored three points a piece.
