WSCC offers driver training, food classes

The Training for Business and Industry department at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville is offering a four-week instructional program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to drive trucks and buses, delivery vehicles, for-hire vehicles and other commercial vehicles. Class A and Class B certifications are available.
Classes are offered Monday through Thursday, Oct. 25 through Nov. 18 from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the Wallace State Diesel Mechanics building.
The course fee is $1,600 plus a $200 testing fee and $4 liability insurance fee. This is a WIA approved course, which means that qualified individuals may receive financial assistance.
In addition, the department will provide a ServSafe Test preparation and certification course Oct. 25-26 from 3:30 until 7:30 p.m. in the Culinary Arts building on campus.
The ServSafe program is designed specifically for food-handling employees of restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, daycares, and other food service professionals.
The course fee is $150, which includes textbooks and the certification exam.

WSCC offers painting and photography
The Lifelong Learning program at Wallace State-Hanceville is offering classes in photography and acrylic painting this fall.
The Lifelong Learning program is designed for ages 55 and up. Digital photography is available Oct. 25 through Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. until noon. Acrylic painting is scheduled for Nov. 4 through 18 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Classes are $25 each and registration must be made in advance.

UM invites potential students to Visit Day
The University of Mobile invites prospective students to attend Visit Day on Oct. 29. Visit Day begins at 9 a.m. and includes a campus tour, messages from the faculty and campus activities with current students. An optional overnight stay in the residence halls is available for a $20 fee. A $2,000 visit scholarship is also available for participants. This scholarship is awarded to current high school seniors who register and attend this event, apply for admission, and enroll for the Fall 2011 semester.
