If you’re headed southbound from north Jefferson and Blount counties into Birmingham this weekend, be prepared for delays.

The Alabama Department of Transportation says that two inside lanes of Interstate 65 will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the construction zone surrounding the new Interstate 22 (Corridor X) interchange just south of Fultondale.

The closure is so that crews can cut and remove concrete slabs in those two lanes.

State troopers will assist in the closure, which leave just one lane available. The closure will run from the U.S. 31 exit south to Daniel Payne Drive. Lanes will repoen at about 8 on Saturday morning, 10 on Sunday morning and 6 on Monday morning.
