Hello, Friday – and if you’re a Bama fan in New Orleans this morning, we hope the hangover isn’t too bad…
Weather: Cold now, colder next week. It will be sunny today, but chilly with highs in the upper 30s. Clear skies tonight, with lows near 20. Saturday will warmup a good bit with highs in the upper 40s, but rain moves in Saturday night, and by the time it moves out on Sunday night, it could change briefly to snow showers as temps take a nosedive. Monday will be brutally cold, with highs staying below freezing and lows dropping to the single digits.
Warrior woman charged. Jody Layne Stratton was arrested Thursday after a Blount County grand jury returned an indictment against her, charging her with transmitting obscene material to a minor. District Attorney Pamela Casey said that the charge involved material sent to a 16-year-old. No word yet on whether Stratton has been released on bond.
Sports: Out with a whimper. This is not what Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron had in mind for his college career finale. He threw two interceptions and was sacked seven times, on the last of which he fumbled the football, which was scooped up by Oklahoma’s Geneo Grissom for a touchdown. That was the coup de grace for the Sooners, who defeated the Crimson Tide 45-31 at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Thursday night. Oklahoma, who entered the game as an underdog of two touchdowns or more, forced five Tide turnovers and scored after four of them. Sooner freshman quarterback Trevor Knight threw 32 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns, both Sugar Bowl records. Both teams finish the season with 11-2 records… Boys basketball: Zach Jackson had the hot hand, shooting 66 percent from the floor on his way to a 22-point night to lead Pinson Valley to a 66-57 victory at Walker. Donevan Waldrop scored 13 points and Austin McKinney added 11 for the Indians, who play at Pleasant Grove tonight. Also on Friday, Fultondale hosts Holy Family Cristo Rey, Pell City plays at Gardendale and Corner hosts Dora.
