The council discussed the purchase in their regular session Monday night, but deferred action to Friday. The council has been working on the purchase for some time, with the money coming from forfeitures in drug cases via the federal government. But that money had still not arrived by Monday, and the vehicle dealer needed to know by Tuesday if the purchase was still on, council member Chuck Mosley said.

The council then debated whether to seek a loan from a local bank to cover the cost of the vehicles until the forfeiture money came through, but questions about the terms of such a loan prompted a vote to meet again Friday, giving Mayor Johnny Ragland time to discuss the loan with bankers.

The issue was the only significant business item on Monday’s agenda.
