An 85-year-old man has died from injuries suffered during a fire that destroyed his house on Monday night.

Arthur McShane was pulled out of the blaze in the house, located on School Street just off U.S. 78. Another woman escaped from the fire. Both were taken to UAB Hospital, where McShane later died.

Adamsville Fire and Rescue officials said they believe the fire was set by a heater.

The woman’s condition is unknown.
