A routine probation violation pickup led to the discovery of a meth lab in a Cullman motel late Tuesday night.
According to a press release issued by the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, Cullman Police officers Matt Tucker and Charles Gusek, along with Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Hardy, went to the Super 8 Motel after receiving information on the whereabouts of Jeremy Nolan Jackson. The report stated Jackson had two warrants including a probation violation for theft of property and a failure to appear on a charge of attempt to commit controlled substance.
After officers arrived they noticed a chemical odor which was familiar to them as methamphetamine. With help from the motel manager, officers entered the room discovering a meth lab.
Quick said for precautionary reasons, guests at the motel were evacuated out of fear of an explosion. He said Cullman Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) was called out to process the evidence, and Good Hope Hazmat then decontaminated the area.
The partnership between the Cullman Sheriff’s Office and the Cullman Police Department, Quick said, led to another successful drug bust.
“Officer alertness with the help of CNET, and the Good Hope Hazmat we were able to remove chemicals, drugs and drug paraphernalia from the streets without injury,” Quick said. “I want to thank the officers and the deputy for their quick thinking and attentiveness to their surroundings. And CNET and the Good Hope Hazmat for coming out and securing then decontaminating the scene.”
Jackson was arrested and charged with unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine. He is currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $1 million property bond.
