North End Council Flower Show returns today and Friday

A long-time favorite event in Gardendale begins this afternoon.
The 63rd annual North End Council Flower Show is Thursday, 2-7 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Gardendale Civic Center.
The theme this year is Sweet Home Alabama; the show will feature designs called Shrimp and Grits, Keep Alabama Green, Steel Magnolias, Bama Bells and other state-themed entries.
The North End Council of Garden Clubs is made up of several local garden clubs, all of which are participating in the annual flower show by submitting design, educational and photography exhibits to be judged by an expert panel.
Some new additions to the show, to be submitted by garden club members only, include mini gardens in vintage suitcases and window boxes.
