HANCEVILLE — Hanceville Mayor ProTem Nolan Bradford was appointed to replace Paul Campbell on Thursday, Feb. 12.
Exactly five months after being elected as mayor of the city of Hanceville, Campbell issued a statement announcing his immediate resignation on January 27, 2026.
Bradford, who has been involved in various community and municipal programs for more than a decade, assumed the responsibilities of mayor upon Campbell’s resignation.
On Thursday, the Hanceville City Council unanimously made Bradford’s title official, foregoing the need for a special election.
The city’s attorney, Dan Willingham, explained that an election could have been requested, but that — because of the size of the city — it was unnecessary and would come with a significant price tag.
The council also appointed councilmember Jana Shelton to fill Bradford’s previous position of Mayor ProTem.
These shifts have left one council seat vacant, which the council is expected to fill during an upcoming meeting.
