Wallace State Community College Alumni Association announces plans for a one-day trip to enjoy the bounty of the fall harvest. The Fall on the Farm trip is planned for Wednesday, Sept. 24 with stops to pick apples and sunflowers and lunch at restaurant voted one of the top 20 buffets in America by Yelp.

Scott’s Orchard in Hazel Green and Hubert’s Family Farm in New Market are the two farms on the itinerary.

Scott’s Orchard grows more than 15 varieties of apples. During the visit, guests will enjoy a tour and take a wagon ride to the orchard where they will be able to pick a quarter peck of apples, or about three pounds. They will also have time to sample fresh apple products from the Farm Store such as apple slushies, fried pies and apple cider donuts.

At Hubert’s Family Market, guests will be able to gather sunflowers and zinnias in aluminum buckets that fit 20 or more blooms. They will get to keep the flowers and the bucket to bring home.

The group will stop for lunch at Mildred’s Restaurant in Ardmore. Offering a buffet of Southern fare, diners will find fried chicken and an array of other meats and vegetables, as well as a salad bar and dessert bar.

The cost of the trip, which includes the fruit, flowers, lunch and transportation, is $139. The deadline to register is Sept. 10. To secure a seat, visit wsccalumni.org/farm or contact LaDonna Allen at 256-352-8071.
