The Cullman County Board of Education approved the next phase of its newest strategic capital improvement plan, which will provide additional classroom space at the Child Development Center, Thursday, April 17.

The board first approved plans for the $2.4 million expansion at the beginning of the school year in August alongside the replacement of Edmonson Hall at Hanceville Middle School and the construction of a new Good Hope Elementary campus.

At the time, Superintendent Shane Barnett said the new facilities would help alleviate pressures created by a rapidly expanding student body as well as update older, outdated buildings.

The addition will provide eight classroom spaces to replace the mobile units currently being used by students and will double as a campus-wide storm shelter. Each classroom will also have its own restroom.

Plans also include modifications to the school’s pickup/drop-off line and the creation of additional parking spaces.
