Wallace State Community College Theatre Department will present Little Women: The Musical Friday through Sunday, April 11-13, at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre inside Garlan E. Gudger Sr., Student Center.

Based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, Little Women: The Musical follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.
“I have loved the story of Little Women since childhood. Jo March (and by extension Louisa May Alcott) was a woman ahead of her time, and her desires and dreams are still so recognizable and universal,” said Angela Green, Wallace State’s Theatre program director. “I believe audiences, whether they have read the novel or not, will find relatable thoughts, feeling and actions in all of these characters. And the beautifully written score helps give more insight to these characters and their situations while also entertaining and enlightening all who attend the show.”
The cast for Little Women includes Beth Roberts as Marmee March, Tahauny Cleghorn as Meg March, Alli Bess Chenault as Jo March, Rebekah Clay as Beth March and Rodrigo #2, ReAnna Rusk as Amy March and Clarissa, Em Sharp and Aunt March and Hag, Will Sprouse as Laurie Laurence, Trae Barker as Mr. Laurence, Conner Carter and Mr. John Brooke and Braxton, James Knear as Professor Bhaer, Brooke Cochran and Mrs. Kirk, Elijah Hammick as Rodrigo, Ariel Jacobs as Troll and Colter Drake as Knight.
Green serves as the director and choreographer. Assistant directors are Ella Gibbs and Nyjaa Rooks. Rehearsal assistants are Em Sharp and Brooke Cochran. Vocal director is Conner Carter. Vocal consultant is Tiffany Richter. Set designer is Mark Eccleston. Lighting and sound director is Wes Clabo. Costuming is Green, Brynn McCain and Rebekah Clay. Hair/wigs/makeup is Emma Sue Carnes. Stage managers are Rooks and Josiah Johnson. Spotlight operator is Ezra Quick. Lightboard operator is Josh Hancock. Stage crew/props is Breanna Briscoe, Sarah Whitfield, Illora Goodwin, Cade Reid and Kaleb Edwards.
“All of these students have been working so hard for these upcoming performances and I am beyond proud of their dedication, hard work and talent,” Green said.
Shows will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m., matinee on Sunday. Admission is a $10 donation
