Kim Swafford brings handcrafted pottery to her first Bloomin’ Festival

The 41st Annual Bloomin’ Festival at St. Bernard Prep School will host first-time exhibitor Kim Swafford, a talented potter from Trussville. With a deep passion for crafting functional and sacred pottery, Kim’s work is both beautiful and meaningful, reflecting her journey of faith, family and artistry.

Kim’s love for pottery began in the 1970s when she built her own kick wheel and attempted to teach herself the art of throwing. Though her early efforts were met with challenges, she remained determined, eventually learning the craft under the guidance of a skilled teacher in 1982. Since then, pottery has been a cherished part of her life, serving as a creative and spiritual outlet.

After years of ministry work, raising a family, and caring for loved ones, Kim found renewed inspiration in pottery during the pandemic, turning her lifelong passion into a full-time endeavor. Her pieces, ranging from mugs and dishes to trinket bowls, pitchers, and vases, are crafted from pure clay and glazes, each carrying a unique touch of craftsmanship. She also creates oil lamps, crowns of thorns, and Eucharist sets — offering both beauty and meaning to those seeking one-of-a-kind, handcrafted pieces.

For Kim, pottery is more than just an art form — it’s a reflection of the creator’s love, a sentiment beautifully expressed in Isaiah 64:8: “Oh Lord, You are our Father, We are the clay and You are our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand.” She believes in the power of simple moments — like sharing a cup of coffee — to bring people together and foster connection.

Festival attendees can visit Kim’s booth to explore her collection, place custom orders and experience the artistry that makes each of her pieces special. To see more of her work, follow @kimswaffordpottery on Instagram.

The 41st Annual Bloomin’ Festival will take place April 5-6, on the grounds of St. Bernard Prep School.
