Time is ticking toward an exciting first-time appearance at the 41st Annual Bloomin’ Festival for Robert and Randi Davis of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The couple will showcase their one-of-a-kind, handcrafted clocks, walking sticks, coasters and more at the beloved arts and crafts fair at St. Bernard Prep School on April 5-6.
A retired machinist and developmental engineer from Boeing in Huntsville, Robert has never been one to sit still. What started as a passion for woodworking has turned into a full-fledged craft business, thanks to a nudge from fellow artisan and woodturner Vyron Bearden. Now, Robert crafts stunning 12-inch round and 9×15-inch square clocks featuring religious, military, hunting and fishing themed designs — each a perfect blend of precision and artistry.
With a love for natural wood, Robert cuts oak, cherry and maple straight from his own 31-acre property. He also works with exotic woods like purpleheart and tigerwood, ensuring every piece is as unique as the grain it’s carved from. His clocks are varnished to showcase their natural beauty — no stains needed. And for those who love a glossy finish, his polyresin coating creates a sleek, bar-top effect.
But clocks aren’t the only things ticking at the Davis workshop. Robert has also been crafting walking canes featuring Marine Corps emblems, custom ceramic coasters, and even innovative K-cup clock coffee holders. “I’ve always been fascinated with clocks,” Robert said. “I don’t make cuckoo clocks, yet, but I’m working on a mini grandfather clock for the mantel.”
While Robert is busy in the workshop, Randi keeps the business running, handling the administration and finances. Since Bob’s retirement in 2011, she’s embraced the role of business manager while Robert keeps creating.
Festival-goers can browse a selection of handcrafted timepieces, including birch plywood square clocks ($35), solid wood round clocks ($50), and sets of four ceramic coasters with holders ($25). Whether you’re looking for a statement piece or a sentimental gift, Robert and Randi have something special waiting at Bloomin’ Festival.
