Cullman Regional Medical Group has added an advanced capability to its surgical offerings. OB-GYN physician Lance Justice, DO, now offers robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery using the da Vinci robotic surgical system.
“Robotic-assisted surgery allows us to give patients more options and greater confidence in their care,” Justice said, “The precision of the technology combined with my experience as a surgeon helps improve the patient’s recovery experience and outcomes.”
According to a statement from the medical group, “Robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery is considered minimally invasive and can be used to perform pelvic organ prolapse surgery, hysterectomies, endometriosis removal and fibroid removal. Patients benefit from smaller incisions, reduced risk of complications and faster healing.”
The da Vinci system’s four robotic arms are controlled by the surgeon and equipped with tiny surgical instruments that move like a human hand, but with a greater range of motion. The surgeon uses highly-magnified, 3D views of the surgical area to navigate even the most delicate and complex cases with exceptional accuracy and control.
Before surgeons can use the da Vinci system, they must complete a formalized credentialing plan that includes simulation training, hands-on lab training and case proctoring.
