UPDATE: The NOAA Weather Radio Signal is back on air.
With severe weather season well under way in North Alabama, the Cullman County Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration radio service is reporting a service interruption according to the U.S. National Weather Service in Huntsville, Alabama.
The NWS provided an update on Saturday, March 29, that the Cullman County transmitter was experiencing an outage, affecting Cullman, Walker and Winston counties.
Cullman County Emergency Management Agency director Tim Sartin told The Times on Monday, March 31 that the transmitter is maintained by the NOAA and is outside the control of local agencies. He said that he has been informed that technicians have been notified and are working to identify and correct the issue but had not received any estimate on when the station would be operational.
Residents are encouraged to tune into the Arab, Alabama station, WNG-642 (162.525 MHz), for up to date weather information during the outage.
