Cindy Myrex has announced she will seek the Alabama House of Representatives District 12 seat.

“A lifetime in Cullman County and on Smith Lake, I never cease to be thankful for the part of the world God allowed me to be in,” Myrex said in a press release. “Living in this community, filled with generations of genuine, nurturing and God-fearing families, I am always glad to call Cullman County, Cold Springs and Smith Lake my home.”

Myrex said she was raised by hardworking parents who instilled the values of “perseverance, faith and community.” She has been married for 38 years, spending 18 of those years as a stay-at-home wife and mother. She is now in her 19th season as a realtor specializing in Smith Lake and Cullman County. She and her husband, Ricky, are members of Temple Baptist Church.

“I have been lucky enough to have the best of both worlds,” Myrex said. “To say I am blessed and thankful would be an understatement. I hope that along the way in my life, I can return the many blessings given to me.”

Myrex, who will run in the Republican primary, has long been active in conservative politics, recently serving as a Trump Alternate Delegate at the 2024 Republican National Convention. She has also worked on numerous campaigns, participated in the Alabama Strike Force with 16 days of door-knocking in Georgia, and was elected to the State Executive Committee for Cullman County.

“My focus is simple — faith, family and freedom,” Myrex said in the press release. “I believe in protecting the rights of hardworking Alabamians and ensuring our values are represented in Montgomery. I will advocate for policies that strengthen our communities and preserve our way of life.”

Rep. Corey Harbison announced earlier this week that he will be resigning from the House in April to spend more time with his family. No date has been set for the District 12 special election. Gov. Kay Ivey has scheduled the District 11 special election for August 26. Ivey will need to declare a second election to replace Harbison once his resignation is made official.
