Cullman Utilities Board C.E.O. Allison Bright said crews were working to address a widespread power outage affecting roughly 1,000 customers across the southern half of the city Tuesday afternoon.
During a phone call with The Times at approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, Bright said it wasn’t clear what had caused the outage and wasn’t able to give a confident estimate of when service would be restored. However, considering the strong, straight-line winds occurring across North Alabama earlier in the day, she felt as though the incident was likely weather-related.
By 5 p.m. power had been restored.
Bright said crews were immediately dispatched and were working diligently to identify the cause of the interruption.
Meanwhile, Communications Manager for the Cullman County Electric Cooperative Brian Lacy said around 100 of its customers were without power. He said 30 of those were co-op customers within the city limits of Cullman.
Lacy said one larger interruption had taken place in the vicinity of Bremen earlier in the day, around noon, but service to those customers had been restored within an hour.
