James Clements, CEO at Cullman Regional Medical Center, has been appointed by Gov. Kay Ivey to serve as a member of the Statewide Health Coordinating Council.

The SHCC reviews and develops the Alabama State Health Plan and advises the State Health Planning and Development Agency on matters relating to health planning and resource development. Clements will serve as a representative for healthcare providers in the state during his three-year term ending in February 2028.

“James’ service on the Statewide Health Coordinating Council will be a tremendous asset for our community and our region,” Sen. Garlan Gudger said. “The availability of quality healthcare is important for our residents, and his service on the council will only bolster medical care in our area.”

According to a press release from Cullman Regional, Clements, who has been a healthcare administrator for more than 30 years, “will bring valuable perspective and representation to the table, specifically that of small independent hospitals challenged by outmigration and lack of growth.”

“As the CEO of a community-based hospital, my priorities are very much aligned with that of the SHCC,” Clements said. “I look forward to contributing to the council’s good work on behalf of all Alabamians.”

Clements serves on the Board of Directors for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
