Cullman High School seniors Nora Sheffield and Elianna Hollis have been recognized as National Merit finalists.

“This incredible achievement is a testament to their hard work, dedication and academic excellence,” Principal Allison Tuggle said in a press release. “Reaching this level of distinction is no small feat, and it reflects not only their academic prowess, but also their perseverance and commitment to their education.

“As National Merit finalists, Nora and Elianna have proven themselves to be among the best and brightest students in the nation. This recognition is just the beginning of the many accomplishments we are confident they will continue to achieve in the years ahead. Their success inspires us all and sets a high standard for future students.”

To become a finalist, students must meet rigorous academic and citizenship criteria, submit an application, achieve a confirming SAT or ACT score, provide a principal’s recommendation and compose a personal essay. Sheffield and Hollis are now being considered for National Merit scholarships to be awarded this spring.

More than 6,780 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 finalists will be selected to receive scholarship offers.

Sheffield is the daughter of Drs. Shane and Tamara Sheffield of Cullman, and Hollis is the daughter of Paul Hollis and Jill Bishop-Hollis of Cullman.
