Organizers are preparing for the 20th Annual Empty Bowls of Cullman County, a yearly fundraising dinner held in February on behalf of the Cullman Caring for Kids Food Bank.
Now in its 20th year, the event features homemade chili, fellowship, and entertainment, with each guest taking home the locally-crafted clay pottery vessel in which the dinner is served.
This year’s Empty Bowls will be held Feb. 17 from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Hearin Hall inside Cullman’s First United Methodist Church (320 3rd Ave SE, Cullman). From modest beginnings in Cullman more than two decades ago, Empty Bowls has grown to become a can’t miss highlight on the annual local calendar, drawing throngs of on-site guests as well as drive-thru diners who can make a quick stop to take home their dinner orders.
This year’s evening will include:
— Southern Gospel Music by Enell Baker, plus Brian Westbrook and the Misfits.
— Chili and a grilled cheese sandwich by Three Guys.
— Handmade pottery bowls made by local potters.
— Silent Auction.
— Special Guest MC Nate Williams — Co-Host for Priority Talk Radio, WXJC Truth 101.1.
Dinner tickets for Empty Bowls are $15 per guest, and are available at Cullman Caring for Kids as well as First United Methodist Church in Cullman. Businesses and individuals wishing to pitch in may donate items for the Silent Auction, which can be dropped off at Cullman Caring for Kids.
On Feb. 4, the Cullman Public Library Story Time will feature “The Story of Empty Bowls in Our Town.” Christy Brock and Tanya Shearer will provide a story reading and pottery activity from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
