Hearing buzz about the North Alabama Agriplex and wonder what all the fuss is about?
If you’ve never taken part in the Agriplex’s year-long slate of agricultural learning opportunities for kids and adults alike, Saturday, Jan. 18, is your chance to come and tour the statewide nonprofit’s Cullman-based headquarters in an open house event that showcases everything the Agriplex has planned for the year ahead.
Free of charge and running from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, the open house welcomes guests of all ages to “visit the property to discover the past, present and future of all things related to agriculture,” the Agriplex shared. “There is no registration — just stop in and say hello!”
Located just across from the Cullman Bowling Center at 1714 Tallyho Street SW, the Agriplex campus lies adjacent to the Peinhardt Living History Farm and features a main building (the John T. Williamson Heritage Center) alongside an array of always-active garden features that open the entire outdoors to course participants.
Open house visitors can also learn about the Agriplex’s latest building project: the addition of a new-construction Community Hub building to feature a new teaching kitchen, as meeting and office space for the Agriplex and the Cullman office of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
According to the Agriplex, Saturday’s open house is designed for everyone who wants to know more about:
— This year’s lineup of course programming for children and adults.
— Volunteer opportunities available at the Agriplex.
— The Agriplex animals — including up-close insights on raising backyard goats, chickens, rabbits, worms and even the arachnid-like vinegaroon.
— The Agriplex Apiaries, including a visit with the nonprofit’s resident beekeeper.
The open house also will offer information on the Cullman area’s rich and diverse plant life as well as operational systems — including “irrigation, rainwater collection, and solar panels, to name a few.” Guests can take part in a garden make-and-take activity, visit the Peinhardt Farm’s Red Hill Schoolhouse, and learn more about the Agriplex’s Community Hub construction project.
