Cullman City Schools acknowledged a recent cybersecurity incident involving its PowerSchool software but said the threat is currently isolated.
In a recent statement CCS said it was notified of the incident on Jan. 7.
“On December 28, 2024, Powerschool identified unauthorized access to certain customer information through its PowerSource portal. The company has assured us that the incident is contained, and there is no evidence of ongoing unauthorized activity or operational disruptions,” the statement said.
PowerSchool is a widely used software which provides the district’s student information system. Affected data could include personal information such as names, addresses and email addresses. Because CCS does not collect social security numbers, this information would not have been impacted.
CCS also said PowerSchool has implemented enhanced security measures, deactivated the compromised credentials, and is offering credit monitoring and identity protection services for certain impacted individuals.
The system also said it is working closely with PowerSchool to communicate with families, educators, and stakeholders. Additional information will be provided to families and stakeholders of the Cullman City School system per the guidance of PowerSchool and the Alabama State Department of Education.
