Agriplex December programs include wreath making, learning about folktales

The arrival of the Christmas season means a month filled with tons of kids’ activities at the North Alabama Agriplex, where December comes with a stockingful of hands-on educational fun.
There’s a seasonal activity for every age among the Cullman-based nonprofit’s slate of learning opportunities this month, including resin and embroidery ornament crafting classes for students from grades 6-12, as well as a take-home, do-it-yourself wintertime terrarium project for younger students.
Storytime activities in December will focus on a whimsical kids’ tale from author Jan Brett, along with a folktale session that draws arts and crafts inspiration from traditional winter-season stories told all around the world. Adults can get in on the holiday fun this month too, crafting their own handmade keepsake wreath using Cullman County grapevine.
Here’s a look at everything happening at the North Alabama Agriplex in December:
Programs for kids
Dec. 4 at 9 a.m. — Heritage Homeschool (Elementary): Winter Wonderland Terrarium. In this hands-on workshop, students can combine creativity and nature to construct their own enchanting miniature landscapes, while mixing in some fun seasonal elements. Course cost is $25 per student.
Dec. 4 at 12 p.m. — Heritage Homeschool (Secondary): Keepsake Resin Ornaments. In this hands-on class, students will learn how to create personalized ornaments. Bring a personal treasure of your own — all other supplies will be provided. Course cost is $20 per student.
Dec. 5 at 12 p.m. — Heritage Homeschool (Secondary): Punch Needle Embroidery Ornaments. Come learn the basics of a new handicraft, and take home your own special set of ornaments. Course cost is $15 per student.
Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. — Farm Kids Club: Worldly Winter Folktales. Come listen to stories from all around the world — and complete art projects inspired by them. Course cost is $10 per child.
Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. — Little Farmers: The Hat. Come hear the story of the hedgehog with a stocking on his noggin’. Children’s writer Jan Brett is a renowned author/illustrator whose books have been loved by many for decades. Course cost is $8 per child.
Programs for adults
Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. — Living Landscapes: Wreath Make-and-Take. Make a reusable grapevine wreath using Cullman County grapevine. Decorate the base with native greenery and nature’s bounty for a stunning holiday garland. Course cost is $35 per person.
