PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Area teams, individuals earn sectional titles; Numerous athletes qualify for state meet

Four local cross country teams secured their respective sectional crowns on Thursday, while a wealth of area runners — including four sectional champions — also qualified for next week’s state meet following speedy efforts on the trails.
Cold Springs’ boys and girls (Class 1A/2A — Section 4), Cullman’s boys (Class 6A — Section 5) and Holly Pond’s girls (Class 3A — Section 3) won their respective meet titles.
Holly Pond’s boys (third), Vinemont’s boys (fourth) and Cullman’s girls (third) will join those programs next week in Moulton.
Sage Nelson (Cold Springs), Travis Barnett (Holly Pond), Reese Swidecki (Cold Springs) and Mila Edmondson (Holly Pond), meanwhile, won their respective races.
The top four squads in each sectional — as well as the top six runners not tied to those teams — advance to the state meet, which will take place next Saturday at the Oakville Indian Mounds.
See below for a full breakdown of each local program’s sectional performance and state qualifiers. Only the top five runners are provided for advancing squads, though they’ll be represented by up to 10 runners at the state competition.
