As this year’s holiday season approaches, a local nonprofit is sounding the call for community contributions that could make a difference in the lives of victims of domestic violence.
In a recent social media post, Victim Services of Cullman indicated it is experiencing “urgent” needs for essential, everyday supplies at its local shelters. Founded locally and operating in Cullman since 1991, the nonprofit accommodates victims of domestic violence and their accompanying children at its Hughes House family violence shelter, while offering transitional, longer-term housing at its Harmony House residence.
“Our storage rooms are looking bare,” Victim Services posted to its Facebook followers. “We need your help to restock them with the everyday essentials that we all may take for granted.”
Contact Victim Services by phone at 256-775-2600 if you’re able to supply any of the following items for local domestic violence victims and their families:
— Towels
— Shampoo
— Conditioner
— Body wash
— Deodorant
— Shaving cream
— Razors
— Toothpaste
— Reusable totes/grocery bags
Other ways to get involved, including offering material and financial assistance, are available by visiting the nonprofit’s web page at www.victimservices.online/give-a-donation. The page also includes wish lists at both Walmart and Amazon online storefronts where donors can directly shop for items that have been requested by shelter residents.
For more than 30 years, Victim Services of Cullman has offered domestic violence programs for Cullman County families, led by a mission that emphasizes prevention while also extending recovery assistance through shelter housing, crisis response, education, and advocacy.
