The Hanceville Public Library recently celebrated the creation of its new Randall Shedd Retail Book Center on Tuesday, Oct. 1, which was made possible after an $8,000 donation from the center’s namesake.
State Rep. Shedd initiated the funds which went toward the purchase of the bookshelves for the new center and the library’s children’s programs.
“This is the only fund raiser for the weekly children’s programs,” librarian Teresa Rivera stated in a media release. “We rely on book donations from the local community to assist in gathering funds to help with supplies.”
The library’s weekly Wednesday children’s programs entails reading a story, children interaction with questions, games and much more. Weekly programs have also included a fall-harvest program — where the children will dress up — as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas festivities.
“Shirley Burden, librarian of 19 years, continues with the vision of making the Hanceville library a better place to serve the community,” Rivera stated in the release. “Updates over the years include an outside garden area with picnic tables-plants, updated kitchen and utilities to name a few.”
For more information on the library, and to stay updated on their future events, please visit the Hanceville Public Library’s Facebook page to see their monthly programs planned.
“Come by and sit and visit with us, and see our organized selections.” Rivera emphasized.
