Good Hope’s defense faced its toughest test to date Friday night — an explosive Hamilton offense that entered the Class 4A, Region 5 clash averaging more than 45 points per game.

Safe to say the Raiders passed that test with flying colors.

Coach Alan Scott’s team used its trademark defense to stifle the visiting Aggies and pick up a 28-6 home victory, improving to 7-0 overall (5-0 in region play).

Tyler Cone’s 16-yard touchdown dash in the first quarter helped the Raiders seize a 7-0 halftime lead after the defense came up with a goal-line stand with less than 10 seconds to go.

Mason Drake produced a pair of scoring runs in the second half, Cone notched his second of the game as well and that aforementioned defense came up with another stop at the 1-yard line down the stretch to cap off a big region win.

“Hamilton has a great quarterback and a great scheme,” Scott said. “We bent tonight but only broke once. For me, that’s a win defensively. On offense, the plan was to keep the ball away from them. I thought we did a great job sustaining drives to make that happen. It was a good team win.”

Good Hope travels to Fayette County next week.
