PREP XC ROUNDUP: Nelson, Cold Springs girls take home titles at Scottsboro Invitational

Cold Springs’ varsity girls cross country team brought home the small-school (Class 1A-3A) title at Saturday’s Scottsboro Invitational, while Sage Nelson sped to a win in the boys division with a time of 17:09.34 at the John R. Esslinger Trail of Champions.

Macie Huffstutler (second), Claire Huffstutler (fourth), Paizley Whitlow (fifth), Kynzlie Myrex (ninth) and Hayla Watson (10th) all placed in the Top 10 for the Eagles, who won the top prize over Pisgah by 21 points. 

Nelson, meanwhile, paced a runner-up finish for Cold Springs, which also got Top 10 performances from Drew Dykes (second) and Logan Perdue (10th). 


PEPSI CHALLENGE

Cullman’s boys finished third in the large-school (5A-7A) division at the Pepsi Challenge in Moulton. 

The Bearcats were led by Top 15 showings from Connor Robinson (ninth), Henry Crocker (12th) and Andrue Barnett (13th). 

Cullman’s girls, meanwhile, placed fifth as a group.  

Mabry Free (eighth) and Addi Vogelaar (11th) finished in the Top 15. 

Holly Pond’s Travis Barnett, Joshua Putman and Matthew Putman were 3-4-5 in the small-school (1A-4A) boys division. Mila Edmondson registered 10th and Cullman Christian’s Elisabeth DeCicco 15th in the girls competition.
