One Friday night down, 10 more to go during this regular season.

And while I surely joined many teams in being rusty in Week 1, that doesn’t mean we won’t be ready to rumble in just a couple more days.

The Week 2 schedule is headlined by a pair of county matchups — Good Hope travels to West Point while Holly Pond welcomes in Hanceville — but those are just the tip of the iceberg.

Before we look ahead, though, please remember to check out www.cullmantimes.com, The Cullman Times Facebook or my Twitter account (@winfreyjake) for full coverage of Friday night football.

Onward.

Thursday

Cold Springs (1-0) at Curry (0-1)

There’s a lot of symmetry for the Eagles heading into this one.

Cold Springs has started 2-0 in each of coach Brendan Voce’s two seasons and holds a 2-0 record against Curry the previous two campaigns.

I see 2-0 once again — though the slight OCD in me probably won’t get a 2-0 score.

My Pick: Cold Springs

Friday

Decatur Heritage (1-0) at Addison (0-1)

Last week was quite the rarity for the Bulldogs, who suffered their worst defeat — 48-13 to Winston County — since a 41-point loss to Red Bay in the first round of the 2015 playoffs.

There’s little time to lick those wounds, though, as Addison welcomes in Decatur Heritage — a 9-win team from a season ago that picked up a 42-22 victory over Sheffield in Week 1.

The Bulldogs are hoping to avoid their first 0-2 start since 2012.

My Pick: Decatur Heritage

Mortimer Jordan (0-1) at Cullman (1-0)

The Bearcats got off to a rough going last week, but return home to face a familiar opponent.

These programs have met four times since 2018, and if anything, you can expect a tight contest.

Just look at the margins of victory: 2 points, 3 points, 2 points, 4 points.

Mortimer Jordan is 3-1 during that stretch, but I think the Bearcats bounce back in their home opener on Friday night.

My Pick: Cullman

Fairview (0-0) at Springville (1-0)

The Aggies begin their campaign following a fall jamboree against Class 2A No. 1 Pisgah.

They’ll play Springville for just the third time in program history, looking to extend their winning streak in openers to five straight.

The Tigers won the most recent matchup (24-0) in 2017. Don’t expect a similar result on Friday.

My Pick: Fairview

Good Hope (0-0) at West Point (0-1)

I’ve been to this matchup each of the previous two seasons — and each one delivered in its own way.

In 2022, the Raiders earned a 6-0 triumph in overtime. In 2023, the Warriors overcame a 20-0 deficit en route to a 49-32 win.

So what’s in store for Friday night?

I believe another West Point victory.

My Pick: West Point

Hanceville (0-1) at Holly Pond (0-1)

Despite being just 13 miles apart, this will be the first meeting between these schools since 2019.

Neither team wants to dig itself an 0-2 hole, so expect this one to be a knock-down-drag-out affair.

Though Hanceville leads the all-time series 22-15-1, Holly Pond has claimed four straight victories.

Could need to bring out the quarter for this one.

My Pick: Holly Pond

Vinemont (1-0) at Southeastern (0-1)

Somewhat to my surprise, this will mark the first-ever meeting between these schools.

Despite a Week 1 loss, the Mustangs have maintained a solid program for the past three seasons, winning 25 contests and reaching at least the second round of the playoffs each time.

But Vinemont has been as consistent as White Castle under coach Stephen Robinson and this might be one of the better games on the card this week.

As for who wins? No clue.

My Pick: Vinemont

Last Week’s Record: 4-2
