The red, orange and yellow seasonal decorations popping up on retail shelves are beginning to look much more like an Alabama heat index map than home decor as temperatures remain in the 90s throughout the week, but according to extended forecasts, cooler days are indeed ahead.
Temperatures have been unseasonably high for late August, but they are not unprecedented. In fact, the hottest temperature recorded in Alabama — 112 degrees — was recorded Sept. 6, 1925.
While 90 degree weather will persist throughout the week, local forecasts predict progressively cooler temperatures during the weekend which will result in relatively normal temperatures in the upper 80s for Labor Day.
Scattered storms predicted for next week will continue the downward trend with temperatures dipping into the low 60s.
