Back in class: City, county students mark the start of 2024-2025 school year

Kids, parents and faculty alike all are getting back in the flow of school season this week, as both Cullman city and Cullman County schools kick off the new 2024-2025 academic year.

Cullman city students returned to classes today while Cullman County school students will head to class for the first time this school year on Thursday, Aug. 8. For city students — particularly in the area around Cullman middle, primary and high schools — the busy flow of morning and afternoon school traffic will likely look different later in the year that it does currently.

According to city school officials, motorists heading toward any of the three schools, all located near Stadium Drive in north Cullman, should expect school traffic to operate in a fashion similar to the way it did last year. But the city has a plan in place to streamline school traffic once construction work has finished this year on the new building that will occupy the site of the former “round” building at Cullman Middle School.

All across Cullman County, communities are welcoming kids back to class — often accompanied by a few free pieces of supplies and school swag — with local kickoff events. Many, such as Good Hope’s Aug. 1 Back-to-School Bash, were held in advance of the start of fall classes, though others (such as Hanceville’s upcoming Kids’ Night Out) will take place once students have had a chance to settle into their new routines.
