Perhaps even more impressive, though, are the prestigious accolades he continues to attach to his résumé.

The recent Eagle graduate and Tennessee signee was named the Gatorade Alabama Boys Track and Field Player of the Year on Thursday — months after earning the same recognition in cross country — and it’d be a tall order finding another athlete more deserving of his particular award.

Edgeworth swept the distance events at this year’s state track and field meet — posting new state records in both the 800-meter run (1:53.31) and 1,600-meter run (4:03.96). The latter effort is the fastest time ever recorded by a high school runner in Alabama and ranked sixth nationally this past spring.

Along with his personal triple crown, he also helped the Eagles win the 4×800-meter relay on their way to the Class 2A state title.

And that’s just scratching the surface of his accomplishments.

In April, Edgeworth clocked a 8:38.49 in the 3,200-meter run at the Arcadia Invitational in California. The fantastic performance currently stands as the top time in state history and sixth best in the nation.

Shortly after receiving his diploma, Edgeworth registered a personal-best 4:02.27 in the 1-mile run at this year’s RunningLane Track Championships in Huntsville, once again storming to the top of the history books with the fastest time produced by a high school runner in Alabama. It also served as a Top 10 time nationally.

Edgeworth, who maintained a 4.14 weighted GPA, currently owns an extraordinary 23 state records across cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
