- A Lifesouth Community Blood Center donation site is set up Friday, June 21.
The results are in and the city of Cullman has walked away from one of summer’s fiercest rivalries, the annual City vs. County blood drive, victorious for the second consecutive year.
Lifesouth Community Blood Center donation sites were set up across the city Friday, June 21, as city and county leaders faced off in the annual showdown. For Lifesouth, the event came just in time for seasonal peaks in demand for donor blood as holiday travel begins to increase.
According to the Lifesouth website, hospitals across the Southeast are in emergency need of all blood types.
Those who donated during Friday’s blood drive received a custom t-shirt commemorating the event, a $20 e-gift card and a free steak sandwich courtesy of the Cullman Cattlemen’s Association.
In total, 142 donations were made with 63 being made at one of the two county sites. City of Cullman donors maintained the edge however, collecting 79 donations by the end of the day.
Mayor Woody Jacobs also announced Monday that the repaving of Swafford Road was nearing completion. Jacobs said one section of throughway, which he described as “the Whataburger section,” was not included in the project due to a potential retail development in the area.
“We don’t want to have to pave something just to turn around and dig it back up,” Jacobs said.
