- Gabe Ognilla — Athlete of the Week
Hanceville’s varsity baseball team is off to a terrific start to the season — and Gabe Ognilla is a huge reason why.
During the Bulldogs’ first six tilts — all wins — the junior has batted .590 (13 for 22) with 17 RBIs, seven runs, four walks and three stolen bases. He also pitched a beauty against Holly Pond, scattering seven hits and 11 strikeouts while allowing one earned run in a complete game.
Ognilla is The Times’ Athlete of the Week. Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Mitch Smith Chevrolet, is open to all local athletes.
Nominations can be sent to jwinfrey@cullmantimes.com with the person’s name, school and statistics.
