The annual Books and Brews event is set to return to Goat Island Brewery Thursday, Feb. 29, giving local bibliophiles a chance to stock their shelves while benefitting the local public library system.

Returning for the third time, Books and Brews has become a staple fundraising event for the Friends of the Public Libraries of Cullman County. Used and donated books, gathered throughout the year, will be for sale for .50 each.

Goat Island’s karaoke will be ongoing during the event for the first time this year. With Chat and Chew also on-site with a tailored menu featuring literature-themed specials, Friends President Julie Freeman feels as though Books and Brews could be the perfect way for local bookworms to get a jump start on their weekends.

“This event is a way for us to foster a love of reading, to build a sense of community as people come together to share their favorite stories and their love of literacy along with some delicious local fair,” Freeman said.

To accommodate this year’s larger selection of books, tables will be located in the warehouse area in Goat Island. Sales are set to begin at 5 p.m. and will last until 7 p.m.
