- A groundbreaking is held for the resurfacing project for the Field of Miracles.
A groundbreaking was recently held for the resurfacing project for the Field of Miracles, a multi-use sports complex that offers inclusivity and athletic enjoyment for all abilities since its inception. The complex, which is the first in the country to combine a miracle field and regular-use softball fields in the same park, will undergo a significant upgrade from a rubberized field surface to artificial turf, enhancing the experience for Miracle League Baseball athletes and all who use the facility.
The original field, constructed through the collective efforts of more than 300 individuals and businesses, held its first game in 2007. The resurfacing project, funded by the past year’s fundraising efforts, including the Cullman Parks and Recreation Foundation’s Dinner on First event, is set to create a safer and more inclusive park experience.
“The Field of Miracles stands as a symbol of our community’s dedication to inclusivity and the spirit of collaboration,” Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs said. “The original construction of this complex was a monumental effort that showcased the best of Cullman — our unity, generosity, and commitment to providing opportunities for all our citizens. This resurfacing project is a renewal of that promise, ensuring that the Field of Miracles continues to be a place where dreams are nurtured, and barriers are overcome.”
Trent Lowry, Foundation Board Chairman, expressed his gratitude and vision for the future.
“The resurfacing of the Field of Miracles is more than an infrastructure project. It’s an investment in the joy and development of our athletes of all abilities. Thanks to the unwavering support of our community and the diligent maintenance by the Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism team, we are not just preserving a field but cultivating a legacy of inclusion and sportsmanship that will serve future generations,” Lowry said.
“The resurfacing of the Field of Miracles is a significant milestone for our Miracle League athletes and their families” Kelly Pulliam, director of the Therapeutic Recreation Program, said, “This upgrade to artificial turf not only enhances the safety and accessibility of our field but also symbolizes our community’s ongoing commitment to creating an environment where every player, regardless of ability, can achieve their fullest potential. The joy and sense of achievement that our athletes experience on this field are immeasurable, and with these improvements, we’re ensuring that these cherished moments continue to flourish. This project is a testament to the power of community and the belief that sports can be a unifying force, bringing together individuals from all walks of life to celebrate the triumphs of the human spirit.”
