PREP SOCCER: Cullman boys pick up pair of wins at Lakeshore Shootout

Cullman’s varsity boys soccer team went 2-1 at the Lakeshore Shootout on Friday and Saturday.
The Bearcats opened the tournament with a 3-0 win against Tuscaloosa Academy before knocking off American Christian 2-0. On Saturday, the Bearcats fell to Gardendale 4-0.
Against Tuscaloosa Academy, Jayce Johnston scored two goals and Josue Sanchez found the back of the net once. Later against ACA, Sanchez added another goal and Noah Warren scored on a left-footed rocket from 20 yards out. Keeper Wyatt Harris recorded clean sheets in both matches.
Against Gardendale, the two teams fought to a scoreless tie to end of the first half. But the Rockets’ offense ignited in the second half, scoring four goals within 20 minutes.
Cullman, which improved to 2-1-1 on the season, will play its home opener Tuesday against Boaz.
Cullman’s girls, meanwhile, defeated Foley (1-0), Davidson (3-1) and Gulf Shores (2-1) at the Southern Shootout to win the Elite Bracket title.
Alexia Harris (3), Ava Flores (2) and Elley Atchison collected the goals for the Bearcats. Kendall Bussman and Aubrey Hastings combined for the shutout in the victory over Foley.
