Our view: Who would have thought this could really happen (did you)?

The 2024 presidential election is shaping up to be a contest such as none of us has seen in our lifetime, and all signs at this early date point to rematch between two candidates that polls suggest few registered voters want on the ballot.
Or do they?
For the past few weeks, The Cullman Times has been reaching out to myriad community members to take a “pulse of the voter.” Essentially, we’ve been joining broad strokes with our sister newspapers nationwide to paint the beginnings of an electoral picture that few of us ever imagined viewing. You’ve likely seen our first editorial foray into this fray, published earlier in January.
Now, just before Saturday’s Democratic primary in South Carolina, and only a few weeks before Alabama’s full primary March 5, we’re expanding our Q&A to a more general audience — everybody.
Pinned to the top of our website’s homepage is a click-through button that will take you to a quick survey asking six, expansive and non-personally identifying questions about the upcoming presidential election.
Essentially, what we’re looking for at this stage is: Are the polls right? What do you really think about the upcoming electoral contest?
We’d like to know, and so would thousands of others whose opinions will be added to local and national stories across our coverage areas, taking, as we say, the “pulse of the voters.”
Past polls, taken often from micro-samples, notoriously have been wrong. What we’re doing here is expanding the scope to give everyone a voice. We hope to hear yours.
