Zayden Cruce drained a clutch 3-pointer and Fairview’s junior varsity boys put their title vibes on repeat.

Cruce’s shot with 35 seconds remaining put his team up three and the No. 1 Aggies took down West Point 33-28 on Saturday to win the Cullman County Basketball Tournament for a second straight year.

The No. 2 Warriors took a 14-11 lead into the locker room following a defensive battle in the first half.

West Point held a 28-25 advantage midway through the final stanza, but Fairview closed the game on an 8-0 run to set off the eventual celebration. The Aggies registered a couple of defensive stops and made a couple of free throws following Cruce’s shot to officially seal the deal.

Player Speak

“Coach gives me the green light. He tells me if I’m feeling it I can shoot it. I guess I was feeling it, and I got a good chest pass and made it. I figured that should seal it. We made some big free throws after that and played good defense. It was a good experience. To do this twice, it’s good for our program.” — Zayden Cruce

Coach Speak

“This is a great experience for our team. A lot of JV teams don’t get to play in an atmosphere like this. They seized the opportunity and ran with it. We preach defense — that’s what we live by. These guys played four quarters of defense. I’m super proud of them and how they finished.” — Logan Baird
