The stage is set for this year’s Cullman County Basketball Tournament.
Good Hope’s boys and girls were officially awarded the top varsity seeds for the second straight year at Wednesday’s drawing ceremony, which took place at the Cullman County Board of Education, after securing the best overall records in county games with seeding implications.
Seeding was based on first meetings among the seven county schools this season.
Brackets for the annual showdown — slated for Saturday, Jan. 20 through Saturday, Jan. 27 at Wallace State’s Tom Drake Coliseum — were also determined by the county’s basketball coaches. Tickets throughout the week will be available for purchase at the gate. Cost of admission is $7 and will be cash only.
Good Hope’s boys (5-1) will receive a first-round bye as they vie for their fourth county title in six years. West Point (5-1) is the No. 2 seed — followed by Hanceville (4-2), Vinemont (3-3), Fairview (3-3), Holly Pond (1-5) and Cold Springs (0-6).
Vinemont and Fairview open the varsity boys slate Monday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Hanceville/Holly Pond (Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m.) and West Point/Cold Springs (Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 6:15 p.m.) comprise the other opening-round matchups.
The semifinals are slated for Friday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. — with the championship game to follow Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.
Good Hope’s girls, meanwhile, secured another first-round bye with a 6-0 record and will be looking to claim their third straight county crown. Cold Springs (5-1), West Point (4-2), Holly Pond (3-3), Vinemont (2-4), Fairview (1-5) and Hanceville (0-6) were next in line seeding-wise.
Cold Springs and Hanceville open the varsity girls slate Monday, Jan. 22 at 6:15 p.m.
West Point/Fairview (Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6:15 p.m.) and Holly Pond/Vinemont (Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 5 p.m.) round out the first-round clashes.
