The dog days of summer are now in the past, but there is another on the way. The Arley Women’s Club is sponsoring the sixth annual Dog Daze of Arley, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 4, beginning at 9 a.m. at Hamner Park off of Helicon Road. Pet owners, vendors, dog lovers and the public are invited to the event. The cost for pet owners is $20 in advance or $25 at the event to enter in the parade and contests. For vendors, the booths are free, and the deadline for pre-registration is Oct. 27.

Applications for pet owners or vendors may be picked up at the Arley Library, or from any AWC member, or go to www.facebook.com/ArleyWomensClub to print the application.

“Our team is working hard to provide pet owners and man’s best friend a fun day at Hamner Park,” JJ Flathmann of the AWC said. “Bring your sweet, talented, beautiful family member for a day of fun.”

One of the vendors already slated for the event is Walker County Humane Society which is jointly helping with the event. Another vendor will be offering specialty pet bakery items.

A variety of events will be taking place with a pet parade, contests and more. The pet parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. where all pets will have the opportunity to be seen. At 10:30 a.m., the contests will begin in the following categories: smallest dog, largest dog, best in talking, pet and owner look-alike, best costume and the new “wiggle butt.” A photographer booth will be set up to take pictures of beloved pets.

A calendar will be made available at a later date for $20, which includes a special “Rainbow Bridge” memorial page for pets who have passed away. Ad space is available for the calendar for those who wish to purchase the space.

Pet photos may be submitted with the application to enter in the People’s Choice Wall of Fame, where attendees can vote for their favorite pet. To be included, the pet and owners’ names must be written on the back of the photo.

Concession stands will be available, with breakfast items including sausage biscuits, a variety of muffins, orange juice and coffee planned.

In case of rain, the event will be held Sunday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. Dogs must be on a leash and under control by the owner at all times. Owners are responsible for the clean up of their pets.

This is the perfect time to visit with fellow dog lovers, groomers and trainers and for the dogs to enjoy a day meeting fellow canines.
