Vinemont's Dallin Dinkle looks for running room.

Dallin Dinkle’s dream of playing college football is now reality.

The Vinemont senior committed to Huntingdon College earlier this week and will get a chance to spread his wings for the Division III Hawks and head coach Mike Turk beginning in the fall.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “I’ve dreamed about it as far back as I can remember. I watched college football on TV and wanted to be one of them. I’m excited to keep putting in the work and contributing to the program the best I can.”

Dinkle turned in an impressive senior campaign on the gridiron.

The standout running back secured 1,624 yards and 16 touchdowns on 290 carries for the Red and White en route to garnering first-team honors on the Class 3A All-State Football Team.

He was also selected Co-Offensive MVP of the All-County Football Team.

Coach Stephen Robinson enjoyed watching Dinkle turn into a beast before his eyes.

“It was nice to see him get what he deserved,” Robinson said. “He worked harder than anyone at Vinemont. It was awesome to see. It shows that a good-to-average football player can become great by working really hard. We leaned on him all year long. And he’s had a trickle-down effect on our program. Guys are doing what he did while he was here. It’s going to have a positive effect on us for years to come.”

And while Robinson will miss No. 24 in the backfield next season, he’s certainly happy Dinkle is getting the opportunity he’s worked so hard to attain.

“I’m super excited for him,” the coach said. “It’s every kid’s dream to play college football. He’s getting to do that. To see a kid off one of our teams being able to go with it … it’s just awesome to see him get something for his hard work. We’ve definitely got our work cut out as a staff to replace him.”

Dinkle is the third local player — so far — heading to Huntingdon this fall.

Cold Springs’ Lawson Burgess and Holly Pond’s Kyler Chaney are taking their talents there as well.

Dinkle played against both during his career and is excited about being their teammate moving forward.

“It’s cool to have some Cullman County kids there with me,” he said. “Kyler and I have quite a history going back to Pop Warner, and I know Lawson, too. I’m very excited about it. We’ll bond really well, and it’ll be cool to play with them again.”
