UPDATED: Sheriff’s Office investigating human remains found near Gardendale

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office released the information it has related to the skeletal remains found at 6020 New Castle Road on Saturday. 

According to the coroner’s office, the deceased was a white male, who had been deceased likely for multiple years, although no cause of death was available at this time.

The coroner’s office said they are working to identify the man and ask anyone with information to contact them at 205.930.3603.

Other identifying factors with the body, according to the coroner are: 

•40-60 years old with a small frame who stood approximately 5’6″ to 5’9″ and wore a small shoe (size 5-6)

•the body was clothed in a maroon t-shirt, tan coveralls and tan canvas/leather high-top boots

•earlier in life, the person had broken the bones in his lower right leg near the ankle and has orthopedic hardware at the break location

•the person had fractured the ninth rib on his left side at some point earlier in life.

•the person had all his natural teeth but did not have his wisdom teeth.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating after residents found human remains inside an abandoned property they purchased and were clearing out. 

The discovery was made in the 6000 block of New Castle Road, near Gardendale, on Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office declined to comment on whether or not foul play

was suspected.
